Heavy rains, floods, landslides, extremely low snowpack, wildfires, record-breaking temperatures, and Arctic sea-ice hits lowest extent for the year. We were warned years ago this would happen.

These news reports below, are only from the past few days.

After heavy rains in the mountains raised the level of river: 'Death toll rises to 12 in Utah flash flood; 1 still missing'

'Thousands Forced To Flee Their Homes After Japan Experiences ‘Unprecedented’ Rainfall':

"Eastern Japan was hit by widespread, dangerous flooding and more than 60 landslides this week after a tropical storm brought heavy rainfall and levees holding the Kinugawa River broke.

The flooding has forced more than 90,000 people to flee their homes, according to the BBC, and rescue workers have been using helicopters and boats to rescue people from the floodwaters. As of Thursday, in Osaki City, Japan, one person was missing, 21 people were injured and 1,000 homes were damaged, according to Japan’s Fire and Disaster Management Agency. Also in Osaki City, CNN reports that three people have died. In Joso, Japan — which is north of Tokyo — more than 10,000 homes were likely damaged."

'Sierra Nevada snowpack is much worse than thought: a 500-year low'“This is probably the biggest water supply concern our state is facing,” said Mark Gold, associate vice chancellor for environment and sustainability at UCLA who was not involved in the new study. “On a scale of 1 to 10, it’s 11.”" 'Two untamed wildfires displace 23,000 people in northern California'

'Hot August Confirms That Long-Awaited Global Temperature Speed Up Is Here'

"NASA reports that this was the hottest start to any year on record by far. This was the hottest August by far in the dataset of the Japan Meteorological Agency, and close to tied with 2014 for hottest August in the NASA dataset.

With the underlying long-term warming trend adding to the short-term warming from the strongest El Niño since the big one of 1997-1998, you can bet the house that this will be the hottest year on record by far."

'The Arctic loses its grip': "Any day now Arctic sea-ice is going to hit its lowest extent for the year, and once again it’s set to be one of the lowest years on record (the four lowest years have all occurred since 2007). Already a number of ships have glided safely through the fabled northwest passage, unencumbered by sea-ice.

…For polar bears, Arctic seals and sailors, the shrinkage has direct implications, but the great polar melt may also be affecting mid-latitudes, by altering our weather patterns."

GOP response:

'Republicans are becoming the party of climate supervillains':

"Top Republican lawmakers are planning a wide-ranging offensive — including outreach to foreign officials by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office — to undermine President Barack Obama’s hopes of reaching an international climate change agreement that would cement his environmental legacy." 'Almost half of the world’s 100 largest industrial companies are obstructing climate change legislation, non-profit Influence Map revealed' "Firms are increasingly using trade groups to lobby against regulations, said Gretchen Goldman of the Union of Concerned Scientists.

“Companies get the delay in policy they want, while preventing nations from acting to fight climate change,” she said. For example, consumer product company Procter & Gamble is a member of Business Europe, despite its stated support for action on climate change. Business Europe and other lobby groups like the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers have sought to water down EU legislation on carbon emissions, according to the Policy Studies Institute.

We need to fight back. Stronger. Harder. More United. Way past fusion time.
